Mooloolaba ITU World Cup. Definately one of the best events around town with
1000's of age groupers racing, kids races, an Ocean swim race, a 5km bolt fun
run, "Raw Energy" burgers ( hands down one of the best burgers you will ever
have the luxury of salivating over ) at your disposal, beautiful Mooloolaba
beach at your doorstep, and a pumping vibe of eager and excited participants.
Not to mention a great post race "let your hair down" event, what is not to love about this race.....actually I can tell you one thing, a once in a 100year storm maybe?...
Arriving later in the eve to Mooloolaba, and not having the luxury of the West sides late setting sun it was dark already and beginning to drizzle, for a warm welcome to the "Sunny Coast". Putting my new cranked out Felt F3 together straight away, it was ready to roll first thing next morning and be "easternised". However with some rain and a not so friendly looking sky i put this off to go out later in the day when it "cleared up". Ha well how wrong could I have been!
Clouds rolling in and rain getting heavier, wind picking up the weather went from bad to complete shit! for lack of a better explanation, with a once in a 100 year storm about to hit. Perfect time to attend briefing. So trooping down with Densham into the mother natures temper tantrum, it was probably not more than 45 seconds until debarchary started. Immitating Mary Poppins with our brolleys, I was flying across the street only my umbrella had turned itself inside out instantaneously broken and sideways as i tried to jump across the floodwaters running down the street. Haha which just caused its own problems as my pluggers were suctioned off and floating down the road! as i tried to stop traffic to chase my thongs down the street! Only for it to happen at the next "river crossing "again! By this time, soaked through to the bone and hands down a viable candidate for the wet t-shirt contest, we squelched our way up to briefing with our broken inside out umbrellas. 30 mins later some photo evidence would have cars floating down the road on our supposed bike course!.....All I could think is this is my worst nightmare!...The whole bloody Triathlon is going to be a swim! :)
